Atia Metallurgical Site — Mining Site

Description

1150 m NE of Rosen village square, 4000 m SW of Chernomorets. Terrace at foot of Zarbuzan height, near Rosen mine tailing pond. Dense accumulations of small slag pieces alternating with ash and coal layers. Handmade and wheel-made pottery (black-glazed, red varnish, amphora fragments, architectural terracotta). Two 14C dates from charcoal in slag: 2291±40 BP. Severely affected by tailing pond construction.
